Concerts in the Parks - 2010 Season

For the past seven years, CAG's Concerts in the Parks have brought together all ages of the Georgetown community to socialize and enjoy live music - from jazz to reggae to rock n' roll - performed in our lovely parks. Youngsters, oldsters, families, and friends (and an amazing array of well-behaved dogs) gather at the concerts to picnic, catch up, and enjoy the live bands.

The 2010 kick-off party held at George the afternoon of January 31 was a terrific warm-up for the good times that lie ahead this summer.  Parents, grandparents, and children – from toddlers to pre-teens – had a great time at the disco-theme party enjoying a red-carpet photo op, arts & crafts, games, pub food and drinks.  A DJ played lots of rocking beats and got families of all ages and sizes involved in dancing competitions.

Kids enjoying ConcertsLast year’s concerts in May, June, and July drew large crowds who enjoyed a variety of bands and special activities.  The May concert’s “Rockin’ and Green” theme featured a craft station where kids decorated and planted their own biodegradable planters with seedlings (compliments of Landscape Plus), and HSBC bank gave out dozens of free energy-saving light bulbs. The Natty Beaux band wowed the crowd with their finger-snapping numbers.

Painting at a Summer ConcertThe Melodime Band played at the Father’s Day concert in June at Rose Park.  Kids decorated and designed their own Father’s Day cards and “Best Dad” medals.

Riding a bike to a Summer ConcertThe July 5th concert was a preceded by a Fourth of July parade around Volta Park – kids festooned their bicycles while people and dogs were decked out in red, white, and blue garb in an awesome show of American pride.  The ever-popular Image Band got the crowd on their feet and dancing to their reggae music.

The Pampered in Georgetown raffle – won by lucky Jessica Heywood-- included a 2 night stay at the Georgetown Inn, a spa package from Erwin Gomez Salon, a haircut plus mani/pedi from ILO Salon, 10 yoga classes at Down Dog Yoga, and a mani/pedi plus a wax from Polished.  All concert goers enjoyed free Häagen-Dazs ice cream cones.
