CAG Launches 10th Season of Concerts in the Parks
May 20 Concert is Pink and Green!
It's that time of year again! The weather is warm, the sun is shining, the flowers are in bloom, and the CAG Concerts in the Parks series is back in action Sunday, May 20nd at Volta Park (34th and Q Street) at 5 o'clock.
CAG's first concert has a jam-packed line-up of activities for the entire family. Back by popular demand -- Georgetown's own amazing singer and song writer Rebecca McCabe will be performing at the May concert. Rebecca will wow the crowd with her acoustic, country, pop rhythms and have the whole family up singing and swaying in the May breeze. Remember the kids on the stage with her last year?
Do you love Rebecca McCabe's songs as much as we do? Download them for free below. In exchange, please make a donation to the Lombardi Center at http://lombardi.georgetown.edu/about/support/ways.html
This year's May concert theme is "Pink and Green" to raise awareness for Breast Cancer and highlight the importance of living green. Concert-goers will be able to plant seedlings and decorate t-shirts. There will be information about both the city's re-cycling program and local efforts in the fight against breast cancer.
Sprinkles has donated cupcakes, Haagen-Dazs will be giving away ice cream cones, and the Ball or Nothing food truck, run by the brother of Concerts in the Park co-chair Elizabeth Miller, will be on hand selling delicious gourmet meatballs.
Be sure to don your preppiest pink and green duds to win an award for most inspired outfit!
And mark your calendars for the rest of the series:
Fathers' Day activities will highlight the Sunday, June 17 concert featuring the Morrison Brothers Band at 5pm in Volta Park.
A special 4th of July celebration concert will be held on Wednesday, July 4 at Rose Park featuring a parade at 4:30pm and the By & By bluegrass performance at 5pm.
CAG thanks all the generous corporate and private supporters including: Nancy Taylor Bubes and Washington Fine Properties, Tutt Taylor and Rankin/Sotheby's International Properties, The Friends of Rose Park, The Friends of Volta Park, Georgetown University Hospital, Georgetown Floorcoverings, The Georgetown Current, The Georgetown Dish, Sprinkles and 1789.

Concerts in the Parks - 2011 Season
The ninth season of CAG’s Concerts in the Parks series was bigger and better than ever. The committee, co-chaired by Elizabeth Miller and Renee Esfandiary Crupi, worked to transform Volta Park and Rose Park into festivals of crafts, contests, and games with the live concerts as the centerpiece. Rockin’ & Green in Volta Park
The series kicked off on May 22nd in Volta Park with a performance by Georgetowner Rebecca McCabe and a special appearance by CBS news host Bob Schieffer. Donning cowboy hats and boots, McCabe and Schieffer invited kids on stage for an adorable rendition of a Taylor Swift song. There were activities for kids, grown ups, and dogs all afternoon beginning with a session of Lil Omm yoga. Hundreds of festive cupcakes were available (even for pups) courtesy of Sprinkles. Nancy Taylor Bubes and Washington Fine Properties brought hot dogs, Frisbees, and hosted a special t-shirt decorating contest that was judged by Bob Schieffer. Bottled water, balloons, and a Lego building contest were provided by TTR/Sotheby’s International Realty. The DC based environmentally-savvy group, Gifts of Good Earth, brought seedling planters for kids to decorate and take home with them. BabyLove collected gently used baby clothes and gear for needy families in the DC area.
Mad Science Excavator Father’s Day Extravaganza in Rose Park
Georgetowners celebrated Father’s Day on Sunday, June 19th with the appropriately named “Mad Science Excavator Father’s Day Extravaganza.” Wes Tucker and the Skillets performed their own award-winning blend of rock, funk, and R&B. The fun began with a huge construction excavator to play on – and kids decorated their own construction hats. Everyone traded in their construction helmets and put on laboratory coats to conduct Mad Science experiments such as making slime and insta-sno. Special Father’s Day activities included an arts and crafts table making Father’s Day cards and #1 Dad medals. Egg relays, 3-legged races, and a Dance with Dad competition were held during the intermission of the concert with special “Dad prizes” donated from Sherman Pickey, J.McLaughlin, Vineyard Vines, and Grooming Lounge. Jettie’s provided an amazing spread of their fabulous sandwiches, Sprinkles arrived with lots of cupcakes for everyone, and Häagen-Dazs was there with yummy ice cream cones.
Independence Day Parade and Celebration in Rose Park
The concerts ended with a bang on Monday, July 4th featuring the ever popular reggae beats of The Image Band. Beginning with a festive red, white, and blue parade around Rose Park, concert goers were on their feet swaying to the smooth rhythms of the Image Band. Patriotic arts and crafts tables were set up for kids to decorate their own American flags and even their own cookies with red, white, and blue frosting. During the intermission of the concert there were a series of contests including the East vs. West tug of war, 3-legged races, and a pie eating contest. Sprinkles provided cupcakes and Häagen-Dazs gave away ice cream cones.
